What is a Neighborhood Crime Watch?
The Gold River Station's Neighborhood Crime Watch Program is one of the most effective and least costly ways of reducing and/or preventing residential property crimes. It is a citizen involvement, neighborhood and community based effort designed to assist citizens and the police in reducing crime and increasing an overall sense of peace, safety and security in the neighborhood. The success of a 'Neighborhood Crime Watch' program is hinged on establishing and improving communications between neighbors, and achieving and sustaining an appropriate level of neighbor involvement.
Goals of a Neighborhood Crime Watch Program
1. To increase citizen awareness of the crime of burglary and other property crimes prevalent to neighborhoods including theft and vandalism.
2. To train citizens in various safety, and residential security strategies to make their neighborhood more secure.
3. To develop a neighborhood action program where neighbors help watch each other’s residences and report suspicious persons and activities to the Sacramento Sheriff's Department.
4. To encourage all citizens to cooperate with the Sacramento Sheriff's Department in reporting crime.
